Never. Unlike Checkatrade, MyBuilder, Bark or Rated People, pros are not charged for enquiries or quotes that never convert — only a commission on completed, paid work.
Is every tradesperson actually vetted?
Yes. Every pro passes identity checks, a phone verification call, and credential/insurance review before they can accept a single booking — see our full How it works page.
What does it cost to book as a customer?
Browsing and matching are free, with no subscription. On completed work, Relay adds a clearly itemised 6% service fee to the tradesperson's subtotal, plus any VAT charged by a VAT-registered tradesperson. You review the full invoice before payment.
Is Relay only in Birmingham?
For now, yes — deliberately. We're going deep in Birmingham rather than spreading thin across the country.
